Many drivers still know this as Bolton West, and the old name still turns up on maps and in sat-navs. It is the same place, now called Rivington after the moors that rise behind it.
Food and facilities at Rivington
The operator lists Starbucks, Greggs, Subway and a Spar shop. Electric vehicle charging is EG On The Move’s own, and the southbound side also has a charger for electric lorries.
Getting back onto the M60
From the northbound side, the next exit is Junction 8 at Chorley, where you can turn round and head south. The M61 brings you back to the M60 at Junction 15.
Worth knowing
Rivington is the first services north of the M60 on the M61, and the last one heading south before you reach the ring. If you are coming down from Preston and the M60 is queuing, it is the last easy stop for a break.
Facilities, outlets and prices are as published by the operator when we checked on 2 October 2026. They change from time to time, so check with the operator if you are relying on something in particular.
Check the M60 before you set off
A closure on the ring can add more time than any stop. Look at the latest M60 traffic news and M60 closures tonight before you leave, and the overhead signs for what drivers on the road are being told right now.
