Services Near the M60

There are no service areas on the M60 itself. The ring is 36 miles of junctions packed close together around Manchester, and there was never room for one. That catches people out, especially lorry drivers who need a proper break, or a family that needs the toilet in the middle of a queue at Worsley.

The good news is that five full service areas sit a short way off the ring, on the motorways that join it. Each has fuel, food, toilets and parking for lorries. This is where they are, and which junction of the M60 to leave at.

Services near the M60 in numbers

One of the busiest motorways in Britain has nowhere on it to stop. These are the figures that matter when you need a break.

What a lorry driver on tachograph rules must take. Two of the five have a hotel or motel for a longer rest.

That is why a queue on the M60 is worse than it looks. Stuck at Worsley with an hour to run on your hours, or a car full of people who need the toilet, the next services are not round the corner — they are off the ring. Knowing which junction to leave at before you need it is the whole point of this page.

Distances are approximate road miles. Facilities as published by each operator, checked 2 October 2026.

Which one to use

On the north side of the ring, Birch is by far the closest — under three miles from Junction 18 on the M62 towards Leeds, with a site on each side and a Travelodge. If you are heading north up the M61 towards Bolton and Preston, Rivington is the first stop.

On the south and west side, the M56 takes you towards Lymm, a truckstop and services where the M56 meets the M6, with a large lorry park and a motel. Burtonwood is on the M62 towards Liverpool, and Knutsford is on the M6 heading south.

For lorry and van drivers

Drivers on tachograph rules need a 45-minute break after four and a half hours at the wheel, and a ring road with no services is a bad place to run out of time. All five of these have lorry parking. Birch, Lymm and Knutsford say they have showers, and Burtonwood says its showers are free. Overnight parking charges are on each page, as published by the operator.

Facilities, outlets and prices are as published by the operator when we checked on 2 October 2026. They change from time to time, so check with the operator if you are relying on something in particular.
