Birch is the services most M60 drivers mean when they say “the nearest one”. Junction 18 is where the M60, M62 and M66 all meet at Simister Island, and Birch is the first stop on the M62 heading towards Leeds.
Food and facilities at Birch
Both sides have Costa, Burger King, Greggs, M&S Food, WHSmith and Krispy Kreme. The eastbound side adds Pret, KFC and a Costa Drive Thru. There are showers for drivers, and electric vehicle charging from GRIDSERVE and Tesla.
Getting back onto the M60
Once you have stopped on the eastbound side, the road carries on towards Leeds. To come back to the M60, the next junction is Junction 19, where you can turn round and head west again to Junction 18.
A bed for the night
There is a Travelodge at the services, which makes Birch one of the few places near Manchester where a driver can park, eat and sleep without leaving the motorway. Check which side your room is on when you book.
Facilities, outlets and prices are as published by the operator when we checked on 2 October 2026. They change from time to time, so check with the operator if you are relying on something in particular.
Check the M60 before you set off
A closure on the ring can add more time than any stop. Look at the latest M60 traffic news and M60 closures tonight before you leave, and the overhead signs for what drivers on the road are being told right now.
